About

The Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam displays Dutch art and history from the Middle Ages to the present. Its collection is particularly strong in works from the Dutch Golden Age, including paintings by Rembrandt, Vermeer, Frans Hals, and Jan Steen. The museum's collection also includes Asian art, prints, drawings, photography, and decorative arts. Founded in 1800 in The Hague, the Rijksmuseum moved to Amsterdam in 1808 and has been housed in its current building, designed by Pierre Cuypers, since 1885.
