The Cleveland Museum of Art holds a diverse collection spanning cultures and historical periods. Founded in 1913, the museum's holdings include more than 61,000 objects. Its European paintings collection is a particular strength, with works from the medieval era through to the 19th century. The museum also has significant holdings of Asian and Egyptian art, alongside American and contemporary pieces. The Ingalls Library is one of the largest art research libraries in the United States, making the museum a centre for scholarship as well as visual appreciation.
