A vibrant countryside scene by Christopher Wood, 'Landscape with Figures' features expressive brushwork and a lively composition. This fine art print captures the energy of Wood's modernist style.
Christopher 'Kit' Wood (1901-1930) was a British painter known for his modernist landscapes and figure compositions. He incorporated influences from various sources, including Cornish naive painting, Synthetic Cubism, and the work of Picasso and Jean Cocteau. His career, though brief, saw him become a significant figure in the British art scene of the 1920s. He died tragically at the age of 29. 'Landscape with Figures' presents a view of the countryside populated with figures and animals. The composition is divided into distinct zones: a foreground with playing children and chickens, a middle ground with grazing horses, and a background of rolling hills. A white fence and covered walkway separate the foreground from the middle ground, adding a sense of depth. The artist's brushwork is loose and expressive, with visible strokes that contribute to the painting's overall sense of immediacy. The colour palette is dominated by greens and blues, with touches of red and white that draw the eye.
