Gozzoli, an Italian painter of the Early Renaissance, was a student of Fra Angelico and is known for his decorative frescoes, particularly those in the Magi Chapel of the Palazzo Medici-Riccardi, Florence. In this detail, St. John is shown seated, writing in a book. His eagle is beside him. The composition is framed by an architectural border decorated with geometric patterns and small portrait medallions. The colour palette is dominated by reds, creams, and browns, typical of frescoes from this period. The work reflects the Early Renaissance style, characterised by its attention to detail, use of perspective, and classical influences.
