Gozzoli, born Benozzo di Lese, was a student of Fra Angelico and is best known for his frescoes, particularly the series in the Magi Chapel of the Palazzo Medici-Riccardi, Florence. His style is characterised by its attention to detail, bright colours, and narrative richness. He often incorporated portraits of contemporary figures into his religious scenes, adding a layer of historical context to his work. The fresco presents a complex composition arranged in a radial pattern. At the centre, St. Francis is enthroned, holding a book and surrounded by a mandorla of light. Radiating outwards are depictions of various saints, each identified by inscriptions. The figures are rendered with a delicate touch, their draperies flowing and their expressions serene.
