Hilma af Klint (1862-1944) was a Swedish artist and mystic whose paintings are considered among the first abstract works in Western art history. Af Klint believed that she was acting as a medium for higher spiritual powers, and that her paintings were meant to convey messages from these entities. Her work often incorporates geometric shapes, symbols, and words, reflecting her interest in spiritualism, theosophy, and anthroposophy. Series VII, No. 7d features a colour wheel at the top, divided into segments of various hues, from white and grey to blues, purples, greens, yellows, oranges, and black.
