Giovanni Bellini's "Resurrection of Christ" is a painting dating from around 1475-1479. Bellini, a Venetian artist of the Early Renaissance, was a significant figure in the development of Venetian painting. His work is characterised by its colouristic skill and emotional depth. This piece is currently held in the Gemäldegalerie, Berlin. The painting depicts the resurrected Christ standing above his tomb, with Roman soldiers reacting in various states of shock and bewilderment. Christ is shown with a white shroud draped around his waist, holding a banner with a red cross. The background features a detailed Italianate with a walled town atop a distant hill. A stark, leafless tree stands to the left, with a single black bird perched on one of its branches. The soldiers in the foreground are rendered with careful attention to anatomy and expression, their poses conveying a range of emotions from fear to disbelief. The overall palette is muted, with earth tones dominating the lower half of the composition and a soft, diffused light illuminating the figure of Christ.
