Terai Shosen provides a visual interpretation of the narrative, capturing a quiet domestic scene within an aristocratic household. The composition employs a traditional Japanese perspective, where the viewer looks down upon the figures from an elevated angle. This technique allows for the inclusion of architectural details, such as the sliding screens and tatami mats, which define the interior space.
The figures are rendered with precise, thin lines that define their posture and the folds of their robes. The male figure, positioned in the foreground, is engaged with a manuscript, while a second figure sits nearby.
