Jean Arp, a central figure in the Dada movement, produced this work during a period of experimentation with biomorphic abstraction. The composition moves away from representational accuracy, favouring organic shapes that suggest movement rather than depicting a specific figure. Arp often utilised the concept of chance in his creative process, allowing shapes to fall or settle into place before refining them.
