This abstract composition is by Alberto Magnelli (1888-1971), an Italian artist associated with the Concrete Art movement. Magnelli began his artistic career exploring figurative painting, but by the 1930s, he had fully embraced abstraction. His work is characterised by geometric shapes, bold lines, and a focus on the formal elements of art, such as colour, shape, and composition. He aimed to create art that was purely non-representational, existing independently of the natural world. This particular work features a series of organic, biomorphic shapes outlined in thick black lines.
