This ceramic bottle originates from 17th-century Persia, a period when Safavid potters produced fine fritware vessels. The object displays a white body decorated with cobalt blue pigments, a technique influenced by the trade and appreciation of Chinese blue-and-white porcelain. The surface features a recurring motif of deer moving through a stylised natural setting, surrounded by floral elements and foliage. The composition is balanced, with the deer figures providing a sense of movement against the static, decorative background.
The neck of the bottle is adorned with a vertical arrangement of leaf-like forms, leading up to a metal mount at the rim. This mount, featuring enamel work, suggests the vessel was held in high regard and perhaps repurposed or protected by its owner.
