Gozzoli, an Italian painter of the Early Renaissance, was a student of Fra Angelico and is known for his decorative fresco cycles, particularly those in the Magi Chapel of the Palazzo Medici-Riccardi in Florence. The composition is divided into distinct registers. At the top, angels float among the clouds, their figures rendered with delicate detail and soft colours. Below, a multitude of figures, presumably saints and other celestial beings, stand in a garden. The landscape extends into the distance, showing a town and mountains. The figures are draped in classical robes, rendered in shades of pink, blue, and gold. The overall effect is one of serenity and divine harmony, typical of Early Renaissance art. Gozzoli's style blends the decorative qualities of the late Gothic period with the emerging naturalism of the Renaissance.
