Louise Moillon

Moillon produced most of her known paintings between the ages of twenty and thirty, then largely stopped. She was a Huguenot in Paris, and the increasing persecution of Protestants after 1641 may explain the silence. Roughly forty paintings survive, each a luminous arrangement of fruit and vegetables against dark backgrounds.
