Eadweard Muybridge
Eadweard Muybridge specialised in photographic studies of the successive stages in human and animal motion. These details were too quick for the human eye to capture. In 1878, he devised a system for photographing a horse in rapid motion. He set up a racetrack with thread laid across it that triggered the shutters of a series of cameras lined along the course.
Biography
His images of horses and people functioned as sequential images of movement.
