Daniel Nikolaus Chodowiecki
Daniel Nikolaus Chodowiecki was a painter and printmaker from the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. He worked primarily in Berlin and made repeated trips to Danzig. His output included paintings for aristocratic collectors and prints for the middle classes in Poland.
Biography
Chodowiecki popularised bourgeois scenes of everyday life. He developed these as variations on the imagery of French fêtes galantes. His work spanned the Neoclassicism and Rococo movements. Solis Prints offers fine art prints of his work, including Calas Bidding Farewell to His Family, Frohes Alter, Frontispiece to Basedow's Gesangbuch, Frontispiece to Heinrich Stilling's Jugend, and Frontispiece to Hippel's Über die Ehe.
