Wolla Bank captures a long sweep of sand below dark cliffs, where low evening light turns the sea and cloudbank copper and rose in Lincolnshire.
Warm light spreads across the water while a succession of dark cliff faces recedes along the shore. The painting sets the grassy clifftop against a broad sand curve, shallow tide pools and a layered apricot-and-mauve sky at Wolla Bank.
The scene has the unhurried scale of this Lincolnshire coast, with the shoreline continuing well beyond the nearest headland.
