Karl Bodmer is widely recognised for his meticulous documentation of North American indigenous cultures and wildlife during his expedition with Prince Maximilian of Wied. While his reputation rests upon these ethnographic records, Bodmer was also a highly skilled printmaker with a keen eye for the natural world. This etching of a wildcat demonstrates his technical precision and his ability to capture animal behaviour through line and shadow.
