Description
Whixall Moss centres on still water between tall reeds and lily leaves, with a low horizon of fields and trees beneath wide, pale clouds.
In the foreground, brown seed heads rise among long blades beside a pool that bends into the distance. Small mats of floating leaves catch the eye along its edge, while a band of yellow-green ground opens beyond the wetland. Deep blue tree masses hold the far side of the scene, and the sky is built from broad cream forms over a clear turquoise ground.
People who walk at Whixall Moss may recognise the slow change from close water plants to open country. The artwork keeps that unhurried passage in view, recalling a place where paths, pools and marsh vegetation set the pace.
