Description
Wetheral follows a glowing red sandstone viaduct over a shaded river, with a square church tower rising above the trees on the far bank.
The bridge crosses diagonally on tall brick-red arches, each opening onto dark water and dense foliage below. Decorative stonework runs along its parapet, catching the same warm light as the exposed cliff at the river's edge. Beyond the final arch, a church with a square tower and steep roof appears through the trees, set beneath large cream clouds.
This is the kind of Wetheral view that makes the valley feel connected by masonry, water and the village above it. It offers a familiar route for residents and visitors who have paused where the river and railway meet below the church.
