Vega-Lep is a representative example of the optical experiments conducted by Victor Vasarely during the late 1960s. As a primary figure in the Op Art movement, Vasarely sought to create visual experiences that relied on the physiological response of the human eye to geometric patterns and colour relationships. This work belongs to his Vega series, which is defined by the systematic distortion of a grid to suggest three-dimensional volume on a flat surface.

The composition consists of a grid of circles, each contained within a square cell. By varying the size and position of these circles, Vasarely creates the illusion of spherical protrusions and indentations across the picture plane. The viewer perceives a shifting, undulating surface that appears to expand and contract. This effect is achieved through precise mathematical calculation rather than intuitive mark-making.

Vasarely utilised a specific palette of colours to reinforce the sense of depth.
