Yves Klein, a central figure in post-war European art, is widely recognised for his exploration of pure colour and the immaterial. While he is most frequently associated with his signature International Klein Blue, his practice also involved the use of other pigments to investigate the sensory experience of colour. This work presents a field of saturated red, applied with a gestural quality that departs from his more uniform, roller-applied surfaces. The composition rejects traditional representational forms, focusing instead on the physical presence of the pigment itself. By isolating the colour, Klein invites the viewer to engage with the material directly, free from the distractions of narrative or figurative content. The irregular edges of the red field against the stark white ground introduce a sense of movement and spontaneity, contrasting with the meditative stillness often found in his larger monochrome panels.
