This textile fragment represents a tradition of needlework from the medieval period, likely originating from Coptic Egypt. The composition is defined by a strict, four-part division of the central square, which is framed by a decorative border. Each quadrant contains a repeating geometric motif, consisting of octagonal shapes linked by smaller circular forms. The embroidery is executed in a light thread against a dark ground, creating a high-contrast effect that emphasises the mathematical precision of the design.
