Nicolaes Berchem was a prominent figure of the Dutch Golden Age, recognised for his technical proficiency in etching and painting. This work, Two Goats and a Kid, demonstrates his ability to capture the physical characteristics of livestock with precision. The composition features three animals: a recumbent goat in the foreground, a standing goat positioned slightly behind, and a smaller kid grazing to the left.

Berchem utilised fine, rhythmic lines to define the texture of the goats' coats, creating a sense of volume and weight.
