Description
Tosson Hill rises as a crag-topped dome above a rolling purple sea of heather, with a low gold sun glowing through peach clouds and gentle haze.
A narrow sandy trail winds through the grass toward young conifers, short fence posts step across the middle slope, and a pale sun disc sits above the far hills at the right. Warm light rakes across the slope and lights the ridge in coppery tones, tall pines punctuate the right-hand side, and the far ranges fade into lilac layers. Even the sky holds the same heather purple at its edges.
The Simonside Hills near Great Tosson are Northumberland's moorland at its finest. Tosson Hill suits anyone who walks the uplands in late summer when the heather turns. The glow of the heather is a high point of the year here, and this sunset version suits a study or landing.
