Description
Torrisdale in Highland Sutherland opens across green hayfields towards pale dunes and a blue river mouth, with a curving sandy bay beneath bright white clouds in clear late summer sunshine.
Torrisdale Bay lies beside Bettyhill on Sutherland’s northern coast, where the River Naver reaches the sea. The river mouth forms a broad coastal opening with extensive sand exposed beside the water. Low rocky headlands and grassy slopes frame the bay, with scattered rural buildings inland from the shore.
Round hay bales dot green fields above a wide blue channel. Across the water, pale dunes and low grassy hummocks lead towards a long curve of white surf. A dark heather covered headland closes the far bay, its grey rock showing near the waterline. Clear sky and harvested grass suggest a bright late summer interval above the sheltered river mouth.
