Description
Tomb of the Eagles looks across a turf-covered chamber entrance towards turquoise water and distant cliffs, setting ancient stonework against the open Orkney coast.
A low passage of stacked stone leads down at Tomb of the Eagles, capped by a broad weathered slab. Rough blocks form the excavation edges before the grass climbs towards a blue-green bay. Beyond it, long headlands sit beneath large cream clouds, with bands of sunlight moving across the sea.
For people who have crossed South Ronaldsay, Tomb of the Eagles brings the island's exposed shoreline close to its prehistoric remains. Residents and returning visitors may recognise the short walk from turf and rock to the wide water, where the chamber entrance faces the distant coast.
