This engraving by Jan Harmensz. Muller depicts the biblical narrative of the sixth day of creation, specifically the emergence of Eve from the side of a sleeping Adam. Muller, a prominent Dutch engraver and painter, was active in Amsterdam during the late sixteenth century. His work reflects the stylistic tendencies of Northern Mannerism, characterised by elongated figures, complex poses, and a high degree of technical precision in the handling of the burin.

The composition is circular, a format that requires careful balancing of the figures within the frame. God the Father appears in the upper left, gesturing towards the newly formed Eve, who stands with a graceful, serpentine posture. Adam remains in a deep slumber on the ground, his muscular form rendered with dramatic shading. The background features a wooded setting, providing a sense of depth and scale to the scene. Small animals are visible in the distance, reinforcing the narrative context of the creation of living beings.

Muller was known for his ability to translate the works of other artists into print, as well as his own original compositions. This piece demonstrates his mastery of line and cross-hatching to create volume and texture. The play of light and shadow across the figures gives them a sculptural quality, typical of the period's interest in anatomical study and classical influence. The inscription 'Dies VI' at the top identifies the specific day of the creation cycle.
