Description
The Minch stretches between dark island silhouettes and distant blue mountains, with pale currents crossing the sea beneath immense layered clouds and a steep green foreground slope.
A long pale band of water threads between low headlands before widening towards a row of angular peaks. Dark rocky islands sit in the middle distance, each edged by a thin line of lighter water. In front, exposed grey slabs cut through the grassy hillside, while soft blue-grey cloud banks build across most of the sky.
For anyone who has crossed The Minch or watched it from the western Highlands, the view holds the constantly shifting relation between near coast, sea channel and distant islands. It gives residents and returning visitors a route to recognise in the overlapping headlands, where the water’s bright traces draw the eye towards the mountain horizon.
