Description
The Merrick dominates an open Galloway ridge, its sharp green summit rising above a blue loch and a pale hill path scattered with granite boulders.
The path begins among large angular rocks on the right before crossing a wide, grassy shoulder towards the water. A long loch curves through the hollow at the mountain's base, and darker seams on the peak give its steep upper slopes a clear, rugged profile.
For walkers who have looked across the Galloway hills, The Merrick carries the satisfying sense of a route with a summit in view. This scene keeps the climb and the loch together, with the stony path drawing the eye uphill. Heather and low grasses gather beside the route.
