The composition is divided into two distinct zones: the earthly realm, where the soldiers deliberate their fate, and the celestial sphere, where angels descend with palms of victory to receive the souls of the faithful.

The figures exhibit the elongated proportions and fluid, expressive anatomy characteristic of the artist's mature style. The palette is dominated by cool, metallic tones in the armour, contrasted against the ethereal, swirling clouds of the upper register. The light sources are unconventional, appearing to emanate from within the figures themselves rather than a singular external point.
