Description
The Market Place, Richmond brings a clock-topped stone market hall and the tall church tower into a sunlit, open North Yorkshire public civic square.
Broad steps lead up to the market hall, whose open arches create deep shadow below a clock tower and weather vane. To the right, the parish church rises in dark stone with a battlemented tower. Cream façades and quiet shopfronts close the square, while large pale clouds soften the high sky.
The Market Place, Richmond remains a civic centre where local errands, meetings and arrivals pass beneath buildings that have shaped the town's outline for generations. Visitors can follow the steps and archways towards the church; residents may recognise the steady geometry of the square at its calmest.
