Paulus Bor, a member of the Bentvueghels group of Dutch painters, produced this enigmatic work during the mid-seventeenth century. The painting depicts a seated woman, traditionally identified as Medea, captured in a moment of quiet contemplation rather than the typical dramatic fury associated with the mythological figure. Her posture, with her head resting on her hand, suggests a state of melancholy or internal reflection.
