Description
The Atom presents a monumental lattice of silver spheres above a still reflecting pool, with pale struts, clipped lawns and bright cloud giving it ceremonial scale.
Faceted surfaces catch fragments of blue sky and foliage, so that each sphere appears both solid and reflective. Slender columns and diagonal braces cross between the elevated forms in a crisp geometric web. Around the water, low stone edging describes a gentle curve, while dark trees and a small pale pavilion anchor the base of the composition.
The Atom is treated as a piece of bold, symmetrical architecture in an ordered landscape. The pool doubles the vertical supports and brings a cool, calm counterweight to the complex metallic structure overhead.
