Description
Tenterden's St Mildred's Church rises beyond a descending lane of timber-framed houses, catching the last gold of evening above brick chimneys and close-set Kent rooftops.
The square tower carries a clock face, battlements and four slender corner pinnacles, its warm stone lit against a mauve and apricot sky. Black beams divide the white façade at right, while bay windows, tiled roofs and potted plants guide the eye down the paved street. Mature trees soften the base of the tower.
A visitor walking through Tenterden can read the town by its changing rooflines and the church visible at the end of a turn. For residents, the lane suggests the familiar route between older shops, houses and the parish centre, with evening light settling on the brickwork.
