The surrounding tribes are arranged according to the four cardinal directions, labelled in Latin as Occidens, Meridies, Aqvilio, and Oriens. Each tent is marked with the name of a tribe, such as Benjamin, Ephraim, and Judah. The style is characteristic of sixteenth-century woodcut production, utilising clear, bold lines to define the geometric forms of the tents and the architectural features of the central sanctuary.
