Description
At Taynish, a weathered round tower overlooks sheltered blue water, rocky shallows and soft hills, giving this Argyll and Bute view a quiet coastal focus.
Rough stone courses taper into a conical roof on the old tower, whose open doorway faces a grassy slope dotted with white and pink flowers. Across the inlet, a small wooded island sits above exposed brown seaweed, with layered mountains receding behind it. Broad cloud forms keep the water bright.
Taynish offers the sort of shoreline where a short walk can move from old masonry to tidal ground within a few minutes. Anyone returning to Argyll and Bute may recognise that close meeting of hill, inlet and island, with the tower keeping watch above the shore.
