Description
At Sutton Bank, a tall stone obelisk rises above the escarpment and broad fields of North Yorkshire, giving the scene a still, far-reaching outlook.
Golden strata face the foreground cliff, their horizontal ledges contrasting with a dark green slope below. A pointed monument occupies the grassy top, while heather and loose pale stones edge the track. Beyond the escarpment, hedged fields spread towards a flat-topped distant hill beneath stacked cream clouds.
Sutton Bank is one of North Yorkshire's high edges, where a sharp limestone drop opens onto cultivated ground. This view follows the cliff line from its sunlit cap to the valleys beyond, keeping the monument and field pattern in the same generous frame.
