Description
A dynamic still life by Italian Futurist Gino Severini, 'Still Life. Centrifugal Expansion of Colors' features fragmented forms and radiating lines, capturing the energy of modern life through geometric abstraction and contrasting colours.
Gino Severini (1883-1966) was an Italian painter and sculptor and a leading member of the Futurist movement. He experimented with Cubism and Divisionism, developing a style characterised by dynamic compositions and fragmented forms. His work often explored themes of modernity, technology, and urban life. Severini's involvement with Futurism began in 1910, and he was a signatory of the Futurist Manifesto. After World War I, his style evolved towards a more classical approach, incorporating elements of traditional Italian art. 'Still Life. Centrifugal Expansion of Colors' exemplifies Severini's Futurist style. The painting presents a still life arrangement, but it is deconstructed and reassembled using geometric shapes and fragmented planes. The composition is dynamic, with lines and forms radiating outwards, creating a sense of movement and energy. The colour palette is varied, with contrasting hues that add to the visual complexity. The painting includes a portrait in the upper right corner, and a floral arrangement in the upper left corner, which adds to the complexity of the composition.
