Stamford Bridge in East Yorkshire spans the Derwent with eighteenth-century stone arches, bringing the village’s river crossing into a quiet scene of leafy banks and reflected summer light.
Across the River Derwent, the road bridge at Stamford Bridge dates from 1727 and was designed by William Etty of York. The listed crossing belongs to the East Riding of Yorkshire village, giving a surviving architectural focus to a place defined by its river.
Two warm stone arches cross the view between dense green trees. Their reflections stretch across the water in broken gold and dark olive bands, with a glimpse of the farther river through the larger opening. Reeds and white flowers rise on the near bank. The bright masonry and full leaf canopy suggest a clear summer day in a sheltered riverside setting.
