The scene is set within a domestic or temple environment, indicated by the architectural elements and the raised wooden platform where the male figures are seated. Koryūsai, a former samurai who transitioned to printmaking, is known for his refined depictions of contemporary life and his mastery of the hashira-e format, though this work follows a more traditional vertical composition.
The figures are rendered with the characteristic elegance of the mid-Edo period. The women, dressed in patterned kimonos, stand to the left, while the men occupy the foreground and centre. The artist employs a balanced use of line and colour, typical of the ukiyo-e tradition, to convey the social tension and decorum inherent in such a meeting.
