Description
Scarinish on Tiree's southern coast in Argyll centres on an old tidal harbour, where stone piers and shallow sand recall the island's long dependence on boats and coastal trade.
Between Hynish Bay and Gott Bay, Scarinish is Tiree's main village. Its old harbour dates from 1771 and served as the island's principal landing place before the Gott Bay pier opened in 1915, linking this small coastal settlement with generations of maritime journeys.
Red and white boats rest on pale sand beneath a substantial stone harbour wall. A tall sailing mast rises at the right, reflected in a remaining pool of blue water. Low grass and grey rocks surround a solitary shed beyond the pier. Clear sky and crisp shadows suggest bright summer daylight, emphasising the broad exposed harbour floor at low tide.
