He holds a large book, his gaze directed outward. Below him, four saints are arranged in a symmetrical grouping. To the left stand Saint Cosmas and Saint Damian, while to the right appear Saint Roch and Saint Sebastian. The figures are rendered with the characteristic Venetian attention to colour and light, which defines the artist's early career.

The painting demonstrates the influence of Giorgione, particularly in the soft modelling of the figures and the atmospheric treatment of the background. The use of colour is deliberate: the deep red and blue robes of Saint Mark provide a visual anchor for the composition, while the contrasting tones of the saints' garments create a balanced visual rhythm. The architectural elements are kept minimal, allowing the focus to remain on the human forms and their interactions.
