This work depicts a gathering of prophets, arranged within the triangular vault of the Chapel of San Brizio in Orvieto Cathedral. Fra Angelico, working alongside his assistant Benozzo Gozzoli, executed this fresco during his brief tenure in Orvieto. The composition adheres to the constraints of the architectural space, utilising the triangular field to organise the figures in a tiered, hierarchical structure. The figures are set against a gold-leaf background, a stylistic choice that links the work to the traditions of the late Gothic period while maintaining the clarity of form associated with the early Renaissance.

The figures are rendered with a focus on individual expression and varied drapery, reflecting the artist's interest in human character. Each prophet holds a scroll or book, symbols of their scriptural roles. The inscription at the base, 'PROPHETARVM LAVDABILIS NVMERVS', identifies the group. The surrounding decorative borders, featuring geometric patterns and floral motifs, frame the central scene, creating a sense of order and containment. The palette is dominated by soft pastels, including rose, blue, and ochre, which contrast with the luminous gold ground. This fresco demonstrates the artist's ability to integrate narrative elements into complex architectural settings, a hallmark of his ecclesiastical commissions. The work remains a primary example of the transition between the decorative aesthetics of the medieval era and the emerging naturalism of the fifteenth century in Italy.
