This work depicts Li Xiangjun, a celebrated courtesan of the late Ming and early Qing periods, known for her association with the Qinhuai River culture. The composition employs a circular window frame, a common device in Chinese painting to focus the viewer's attention on the subject while suggesting a private, interior space. Li Xiangjun is shown in a moment of quiet contemplation, holding a fan, with the delicate branches of a flowering tree visible in the foreground.
