The scene captures the participants engaged in the practice of floating wine cups down a winding stream, a traditional activity associated with the composition of poetry. Kakoku, a practitioner of the Bunjinga style, employs the blue-and-green technique, a classical method of Chinese painting that uses mineral pigments to create a distinct aesthetic.
The composition is organised vertically, guiding the eye from the foreground bridge and figures up towards the pavilion nestled within the craggy, mountain terrain. The artist balances the human activity with the natural environment, using fine brushwork to define the foliage, rocks, and architectural elements. The colour palette relies on soft greens, blues, and earthy tones, which provide a sense of harmony across the silk surface.
