Mountains of the Heart, or Kyōchūzan, is a celebrated woodblock-printed album by the Japanese scholar-painter Kameda Bōsai. Published in 1810, this work represents the Bunjinga tradition, which drew inspiration from Chinese literati painting. Bōsai was a prominent figure in the intellectual circles of Edo-period Japan, known for his proficiency in poetry, calligraphy, and painting.

This specific print demonstrates the characteristic economy of line and focus on atmospheric depth central to the Bunjinga aesthetic. The composition features a large, dominant rock formation on the left, rendered with soft, earthy washes of ochre and muted green. The right side of the image recedes into a misty, ethereal distance, suggesting distant peaks through faint, layered ink tones. The deliberate use of negative space allows the viewer to focus on the balance between the solid, grounded foreground and the intangible, distant horizon.

Bōsai employs a calligraphic approach to his brushwork, where the weight and direction of each stroke convey the texture of the stone and the density of the vegetation. The inclusion of red seals adds a formal, rhythmic element to the composition, grounding the visual field.
