Description
Montgomery Long Mynd catches the last ochre light on a steep ridge path, with heather in the foreground and a broad patchwork of Shropshire hills falling away beyond.
A pale stone trail threads up the centre of the composition, following the crest towards a dark, sharply defined summit. Grassy slopes on either side are divided into amber and olive planes, while mauve ranges recede under long, rose-coloured clouds. The eye travels from textured moorland at the base to small hedged fields in the valley below.
Montgomery Long Mynd is presented as a place for following a high route rather than merely looking across it. The generous sky and successive contours give the image a settled sense of distance, while the lit path creates a clear invitation into the landscape.
