This thangka depicts the Mandala of Raktayamari, a complex geometric representation of the deity associated with the Yamantaka cycle of tantric practice. Attributed to the 8th Karmapa, Mikyo Dorje, the work follows the strict iconographic requirements of Tibetan Buddhist tradition. The central square, or palace, houses the primary deity, surrounded by four directional gates that define the sacred space. The composition employs a precise, symmetrical arrangement, typical of mandalas intended for meditative focus.

The colour palette relies on mineral pigments, featuring deep reds, ochres, and blues. These hues delineate the various zones of the mandala, from the inner sanctum to the outer rings of fire and lotus petals. The outer border contains a series of smaller figures, including lineage masters and secondary deities, which provide a narrative context for the central image.
