Description
Mackinnon's Cave on Mull opens below towering coastal rock, a narrow waterfall beside its dark entrance reflected across tidal pools in the amber and violet light of a summer evening.
Mackinnon's Cave lies near Gribun on the western side of Mull. Recorded at 153 metres long, this sea cave penetrates metamorphosed sandstone beneath higher layers of younger sedimentary rock. Its tall entrance faces a tidal shore scattered with large boulders, linking the cavern with the island’s exposed coastline.
A black opening cuts into a steep purple-grey cliff on the right, close to a thin white waterfall. Broken rocks sit in shallow pools across the near shore, their outlines repeated in warm reflections. Gold touches the cliff edges beneath an orange sky, while the shaded rock retains cooler violet tones in the summer evening light.
