Unlike his earlier, strictly pointillist works, this piece demonstrates a looser, more fluid application of paint. The composition is balanced, with the horizontal expanse of the riverbank providing a stable base for the vertical forms of the trees. This technique involved applying small, distinct dots of colour to the canvas, which then blend in the viewer's eye to create a unified image. Unlike Seurat, who sought a scientific precision, Luce used Pointillism to capture the energy and dynamism of modern life, particularly the industrial world. His paintings demonstrate a fascination with light and colour and an interest in capturing the atmosphere of his subjects.
